Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in apparel, manufacturing, information technology, tourism, logistics, finance, engineering and customer service. The island has a warm tropical climate, diverse cuisine, scenic beaches, mountains, wildlife and a rich mix of Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and other cultural traditions. Colombo is the main commercial centre, while industrial opportunities are also found near Katunayake, Biyagama, Koggala and other export zones. Living costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although housing and imported goods can be expensive in Colombo. English is widely used in business, with Sinhala and Tamil being the main local languages. Foreign nationals generally need an employment visa or residence approval sponsored or supported by the employer; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm current visa rules, contracts, accommodation and relocation benefits with MAS and Sri Lankan authorities.
