Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, finance, technology and healthcare. The culture is multicultural, with Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences reflected in its food, festivals and daily life. Public transport is clean, reliable and extensive, while housing, dining and entertainment are convenient but relatively expensive. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, transport and deposits. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation; the employer normally submits the application. Secure a written offer before relocating and confirm accommodation, medical coverage, working hours and pass eligibility. Singapore is safe and well connected, making it a practical base for exploring Southeast Asia.
