Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, logistics, technology and professional services. Hospitality workers may find positions in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants and event venues, although competition is high and shift work is common. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient public services and fast-paced city life. Housing can be expensive, but public transport is excellent and many employees live in Kowloon, the New Territories or nearby islands to reduce costs. Foreign workers generally need an approved employment visa before starting work; the employer normally sponsors the application, and the role must meet immigration requirements. Bring valid qualifications, references and passport documents, and confirm accommodation, insurance, service charge and working hours before relocating. Hong Kong has humid summers, mild winters, excellent food, hiking trails and extensive ferry, rail and bus connections.
