Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a dense, energetic coastal city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories, rather than a single resort island. It offers strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, finance, technology, retail, logistics, and professional services. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient urban living, and a fast-paced work ethic. Residents enjoy excellent public transport, diverse dining, hiking trails, beaches, arts, and vibrant nightlife, although accommodation can be expensive and space is limited. Overseas professionals generally need an employment visa, commonly sponsored through the General Employment Policy, with approval based on qualifications, a genuine job offer, market-level salary, and employer justification. Employers often assist with applications and relocation. New arrivals should arrange housing, medical insurance, banking, tax registration, and transport access. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is commonly used in business and international hotels.
