Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, tourism, finance, technology and healthcare. The culture is multicultural, with Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences reflected in food, festivals and daily life. Public transport is excellent, the city is clean and safe, and leisure options include parks, beaches, museums, shopping and lively neighbourhoods. Accommodation and dining can be expensive, so careful budgeting is important, although staff meals, transport allowances or hotel benefits may be available depending on the employer. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or relevant Work Permit; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and government requirements. Before relocating, confirm the pass type, medical checks, housing arrangements, insurance, working hours and benefits with Shangri-La. English is widely used in the workplace.
