Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and workplaces are generally fast-paced and multicultural. The lifestyle is convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking trails and beaches, although housing can be expensive and space is limited. Popular residential areas include Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and the New Territories, with commuting commonly done by MTR, buses and ferries. Overseas applicants normally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer; the role, qualifications, salary and employer must satisfy immigration requirements. Applicants should secure a written offer before relocating and budget for deposits, accommodation, medical insurance and daily expenses. Cantonese is valuable for local hospitality work, while English is widely used in hotels. Hong Kong has a subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and occasional typhoons.
