Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, logistics, technology, healthcare, finance and retail. Hotel jobs are concentrated around Orchard Road, Marina Bay, Sentosa, the airport and major business districts. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally respectful, with English widely used at work alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Public transport is efficient, safe and extensive, while housing and dining costs can be high, especially in central areas. Employment requires an appropriate work pass, normally arranged by the employer; common options include the Employment Pass, S Pass and Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and sector rules. Foreign workers should confirm sponsorship, contract terms, medical requirements and accommodation before travelling. Singapore has a hot, humid climate year-round, with frequent rain. New arrivals should budget for deposits, transport, food, insurance and initial living expenses.
