Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, retail and international business. Hospitality workers can find roles in luxury hotels, resorts, clubs and large event venues, although shifts, weekends and public-holiday work are common. The culture combines Chinese traditions with international influences, with Cantonese widely spoken and English used in many workplaces. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, diverse food and easy access to hiking trails and beaches. Housing is expensive, so accommodation and commuting costs should be considered carefully. Overseas employees generally need an employer-sponsored work visa before starting employment; approval depends on qualifications, a genuine job offer and prevailing immigration rules. Employers may provide guidance, uniforms, meals or staff accommodation, but these benefits vary. Applicants should confirm visa sponsorship, working hours, deductions and benefits directly with Shangri-La.
