Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city with strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare, logistics and education. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and fast-paced, with excellent public transport, reliable services and strict regulations. Housing can be expensive, particularly near central districts, although public transport makes commuting from areas such as Queenstown, Geylang, Tampines or Woodlands practical. Food courts, neighbourhood markets, parks and waterfront areas make everyday life convenient, while Orchard Road and Marina Bay offer entertainment and shopping. Foreign workers generally need employer-sponsored permission before starting work. Hospitality roles may use an S Pass or Work Permit, subject to current eligibility rules, quotas and salary requirements; professional roles may qualify for an Employment Pass. Confirm visa conditions and relocation costs with the employer and Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower.
