Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and professional services. The city blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, festivals, temples and a highly developed modern business culture. Life is fast-paced, safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, abundant dining and easy access to hiking trails, beaches and nearby islands. Rent can be expensive, especially in central districts, so many workers live in Kowloon or the New Territories and commute by MTR. Overseas employees normally need an employment visa before starting work; the employer generally sponsors the application, and eligibility depends on a genuine job offer, qualifications, relevant experience and local salary conditions. A valid passport, medical or background documents and proof of employment may be required. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, banking, insurance and an Octopus travel card.
