Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, finance, technology, healthcare and logistics. The culture is multicultural, with Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences reflected in food, festivals and daily life. Public transport is efficient, streets are safe and English is widely used at work. Lifestyle costs can be high, especially rent, but public housing, hawker centres and extensive transport help manage expenses. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on salary, qualifications and occupation. Employers normally submit the application to Singapore's Ministry of Manpower. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking and tax registration, and check current pass requirements before relocating.
