Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotel sales, tourism, food and beverage, events, technology, finance and international business. For island living, Langkawi is relaxed and resort-focused, Penang combines beaches with a lively heritage city, and Sabah’s islands offer diving, nature and outdoor tourism. Kuala Lumpur is not an island but remains the country’s main commercial centre and a common base for regional hotel careers. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business, while Bahasa Malaysia is the national language. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many global cities, though major resort locations can be more expensive. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and approval must be secured before working. Relocation involves passport, medical, qualification and police-clearance documents, plus accommodation and local banking arrangements.
