Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail and supporting service industries, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. For island living, Langkawi is popular for its beaches, relaxed pace and established resort sector, while Penang combines heritage, food culture and urban conveniences. Sabah’s islands and coastal resorts provide strong tourism employment but may feel more remote. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality. Living costs vary, with resort islands often charging more for imported goods and housing. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and should not begin work before approval. Confirm visa, accommodation, healthcare, tax and relocation arrangements directly with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
