Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics and professional services, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other coastal destinations. The culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in hospitality workplaces. Island life can be relaxed and scenic, with beaches, diving, local markets and outdoor activities, although housing, transport and healthcare may be more limited than in major cities. Living costs vary considerably by location. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass or work permit arranged before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, role and sector. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, meals, medical coverage, contract terms and visa responsibility directly with Shangri-La before relocating.
