Destination Guide

Singapore is a modern island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage, tourism, retail, finance, technology and healthcare. Its multicultural society combines Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in festivals, languages and outstanding hawker food. Life is safe, efficient and convenient, with excellent public transport and extensive shopping, dining and entertainment options. Housing can be expensive, particularly in central areas, so newcomers often compare employer accommodation, shared apartments and locations near MRT stations. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an S Pass or Employment Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and government approval. Employers normally handle the application process. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, medical coverage, working hours and pass conditions. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
