Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, island resorts, spas, restaurants, tourism and marine activities, particularly in Langkawi, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur and the east-coast islands. The culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in tourism workplaces. Lifestyle ranges from busy city living to relaxed beach communities, with generally affordable food and transport outside major centres. Langkawi, Penang and Sabah are popular relocation choices for resort professionals. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass or other approved work authorisation arranged by the employer before starting work; requirements vary by nationality and position. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, medical checks, contract terms and taxation directly with Shangri-La. Tropical weather, seasonal tourism demand and occasional remote-island logistics should also be considered.
