Job Description

The Guest Relations Officer welcomes guests, manages enquiries, coordinates special requests, resolves complaints and helps create a smooth, personalized stay. Candidates typically need a diploma or certificate in hospitality, previous hotel or customer-service experience, professional communication skills and good spoken and written English. Knowledge of Malay and other languages is an advantage. The role requires a polished appearance, strong service awareness, patience, problem-solving ability and confidence using hotel systems. The successful candidate is expected to remain attentive during busy periods, work shifts, weekends and public holidays, cooperate with different departments and consistently represent Shangri-La’s service standards.

Company Info

Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company founded in Hong Kong and known for its distinctive Asian-inspired service. It operates hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Shangri-La properties generally focus on warm hospitality, personalized guest experiences, quality dining, wellness and memorable destination stays. In Malaysia, the group has operated well-known city and resort properties, including hotels associated with Kuala Lumpur and popular leisure destinations. Employees typically work in a multicultural environment with structured service procedures, training and opportunities to progress within hotel operations. Guest-facing colleagues are expected to be professional, attentive and culturally sensitive while delivering the company’s philosophy of genuine care and excellent service.

Destination Guide

Malaysia is a multicultural country rather than a single island, with opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and resort areas such as Redang and Perhentian. Hospitality jobs are common in hotels, restaurants, tourism, events and wellness, particularly in major cities and beach destinations. Malay, English and Chinese languages are widely useful. Life combines modern urban conveniences with excellent food, tropical weather, diverse festivals and a generally relaxed social culture; island locations offer beaches, diving and a slower pace but fewer services. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or other approved work permit before starting work. The employer usually handles much of the application, while qualifications, passport validity and medical or immigration documents may be required. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, taxes and contract terms, as resort living can differ considerably from city life.
