Destination Guide

Australia is a large island continent with strong employment opportunities in hospitality, tourism, restaurants, resorts, events and food service, particularly in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Cairns and regional tourist destinations. The culture is generally informal, multicultural and outdoors-oriented, with an emphasis on work-life balance, teamwork and straightforward communication. Lifestyle options range from major-city dining and entertainment to beaches, national parks and remote coastal communities. Foreign applicants normally need an appropriate work visa, such as an employer-sponsored visa, skilled visa or eligible working holiday visa; requirements depend on nationality, occupation and experience. Relocating may involve visa processing, health checks, police clearances, accommodation deposits, tax registration and healthcare arrangements. Australia has a relatively high cost of living, especially in Sydney and Melbourne, so salary, accommodation and relocation support should be confirmed with the employer. Chefs may also need food-safety certification and recognition of qualifications.
