Job Description

The Events Manager is expected to plan, coordinate and deliver conferences, weddings, meetings and special events at Shangri-La in the Philippines. Requirements typically include a degree or diploma in hospitality, business or event management, along with several years of experience in hotel event operations, banquet coordination or sales. Strong organizational, communication and negotiation skills are essential, as well as confidence managing budgets, suppliers, guest expectations and multiple deadlines. The successful candidate should be service-focused, commercially aware and comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and public holidays. Experience with luxury hotels, event technology and team leadership is advantageous. Fluency in English is generally required, while knowledge of local languages and Philippine event practices is helpful.

Company Info

Shangri-La is a leading luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, with hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international destinations. The company is recognized for warm Asian hospitality, elegant properties, high service standards and carefully designed guest experiences. Its Philippine operations include luxury resorts and city hotels serving leisure travelers, corporate guests, weddings and major events. Employees typically work in multicultural teams and receive exposure to international hospitality practices, guest relations, food and beverage operations and event management. Shangri-La places strong emphasis on professionalism, personalized service, integrity, teamwork and career development. Depending on the property, the work environment may be fast-paced and seasonal, particularly for events, conferences and resort celebrations. Benefits may include meals, uniforms, service charge, accommodation or transport support, health coverage and training, although packages vary by location and employment level.

Destination Guide

The Philippines offers opportunities in resorts, hotels, restaurants, tourism, events, business-process services and marine activities. Major hospitality markets include Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Bohol and Davao, each offering a different lifestyle. Filipino culture is friendly, family-oriented and community-minded, with English widely used in workplaces. Island living can provide warm weather, beaches, outdoor activities and a relaxed social atmosphere, although transport, internet reliability and healthcare access vary outside major cities. Employees should budget for changing rental prices, seasonal tourism demand and occasional typhoons. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate visa or employment authorization; tourist status does not permit legal employment. Employers commonly assist with documentation, but applicants should confirm requirements with Philippine authorities before relocating. A passport, police clearance, medical documents, authenticated qualifications and a clear employment contract may be requested. Local salaries can be modest compared with international markets, so benefits and service charges are important to evaluate.
