Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, retail, logistics, technology and professional services. Its international business environment makes accounting experience, English and Cantonese especially useful, while Mandarin can also improve career prospects. Life is fast-paced and highly connected, with excellent public transport, diverse restaurants, shopping, hiking trails and vibrant cultural districts. Housing is expensive, particularly on Hong Kong Island and in central Kowloon, so many newcomers consider areas such as the New Territories for better value. Salaried professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer before starting work; the company generally provides supporting documents, while applicants must meet qualification and salary requirements. Dependants may be eligible for dependant visas. Relocation planning should include accommodation, medical insurance, transport costs and proof of qualifications. Hong Kong is a city rather than a single resort island, but it provides an energetic mix of urban and coastal living.
