Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state with opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare and logistics. Its culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in its festivals, food and languages. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and urban, with excellent public transport, shopping, parks and attractions, although housing and daily expenses can be high. Employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass. Hospitality staff may qualify for an S Pass or another appropriate pass, depending on salary, qualifications, quotas and current government rules; the employer normally submits the application. Before relocating, arrange approved employment, accommodation, medical coverage and sufficient savings. Singapore is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. English is widely used at work, and familiarity with Mandarin, Malay or other languages can benefit guest-service employees.
