Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and healthcare. Its culture blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western influences, reflected in its festivals, languages and famous hawker food. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and convenient, with excellent public transport, modern facilities and many parks, shopping areas and entertainment venues. Living costs, especially rent, are high, so accommodation and budgeting should be considered carefully. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation; approval is handled through Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. New arrivals should arrange a valid employment contract, suitable housing, healthcare coverage and local banking access. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
