Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Johor and other resort destinations. Langkawi and Penang are especially attractive for island-oriented lifestyles, combining beaches, restaurants, heritage areas and international tourism. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels, while Bahasa Malaysia is the national language. Living costs vary, with resort islands sometimes having higher rents and fewer services than major cities. Leisure commonly includes island-hopping, diving, hiking, local markets and diverse cuisine. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and approval must be obtained before starting work; requirements can change, so candidates should confirm details with Shangri-La and Malaysian immigration authorities. Relocation planning should cover accommodation, healthcare, transport, banking, insurance and tax registration. Tourist entry does not permit employment.
