Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates rather than an island, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, finance and corporate jobs. The country is multicultural, modern and generally welcoming, while local customs place importance on respect, modest dress in public areas and religious traditions. Lifestyle options range from beaches, desert activities and shopping to restaurants, cultural attractions and international entertainment. Accommodation and schooling can be expensive, although many hospitality employers provide housing or an allowance, transport, meals, insurance and annual flights. Most expatriates require employer sponsorship for a residence visa and work permit; medical testing and Emirates ID registration are normally part of the process. Candidates should confirm package details, probation terms and family sponsorship eligibility before relocating. Public transport is strong in major cities, but many residents use taxis or cars. Summers are extremely hot, while winter is comfortable.
