Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, education and professional services. Popular island and coastal destinations include Penang, Langkawi, Tioman, Redang, Perhentian and parts of Sabah, while Kuala Lumpur provides the widest range of corporate roles. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality and business. Lifestyle costs vary: island living can be relaxed but seasonal and more expensive for imported goods, whereas cities offer better transport, healthcare and career options. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, and the company must meet immigration requirements before employment begins. Candidates should confirm the visa category, contract, accommodation, medical coverage and relocation support with Shangri-La. Malaysia has a warm tropical climate, excellent food, diverse communities and generally welcoming environments for hospitality professionals.
