Destination Guide

Penang is Malaysia’s main island destination for hospitality careers, with opportunities in luxury resorts, hotels, restaurants, tourism, events and travel services. Batu Feringgi focuses on beach resorts, while George Town offers heritage tourism, dining, retail and corporate business. The lifestyle combines relatively affordable living, warm weather, beaches, hiking, excellent food and a multicultural community. Malay, English, Mandarin and various Chinese dialects are commonly heard, and English is widely used in hotels. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass; the company normally submits the application and approval should be obtained before starting work. Candidates should confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, transport, medical cover and relocation support in writing. Rental costs vary by area, with shared or modest apartments usually more affordable outside central George Town. Penang is well connected by air and road, although traffic can be busy during peak periods.
