Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Malacca and coastal resort areas. Langkawi, Penang and Sabah are especially attractive for resort, restaurant, diving and tourism careers, while Kuala Lumpur provides broader hotel and corporate opportunities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in hotels. Lifestyle costs are moderate, although popular islands and major cities can be more expensive. Employees should expect a tropical climate, diverse food, close-knit communities and a service-focused working environment. Foreign nationals generally need an employment pass or another approved work permit sponsored by the employer; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Before relocating, confirm accommodation, transport, medical coverage, contract terms and visa responsibility. Island locations may have fewer services and higher prices than mainland cities, but often provide a relaxed lifestyle and strong tourism experience.
