Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare and retail. The culture is multicultural, efficient and generally welcoming, with English widely used at work alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Lifestyle options range from excellent public transport, shopping and dining to beaches, parks and a lively arts scene. Housing can be expensive, especially in central areas, so many newcomers choose shared accommodation or locations near MRT stations. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored work pass: managers commonly qualify for an Employment Pass or, depending on salary and eligibility, an S Pass. The employer normally submits the application, and approval is required before starting work. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, healthcare and daily expenses, while checking current Ministry of Manpower requirements before relocating.
