Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and business services. Major hospitality employment hubs include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and the islands of Sabah and Sarawak. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels, while Malay is the national language. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many international destinations, though central Kuala Lumpur and resort islands can be more expensive. Popular leisure destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Redang, Perhentian, Tioman and the Sabah islands. Foreign employees generally require an employment pass sponsored by their employer before starting work. Employers normally handle the application, and approval depends on qualifications, salary and position. Relocating staff should arrange suitable insurance, accommodation and documentation before arrival.
