Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, building services, property management, construction and facilities engineering, particularly for workers with electrical, mechanical or hotel-maintenance experience. The culture combines Chinese traditions with international influences, and Cantonese is widely spoken while English is common in hotels and business. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking, beaches and vibrant neighbourhoods. Housing is expensive and space is limited, so many employees share accommodation or live in areas connected by the MTR. Foreign nationals generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer; applications usually require a confirmed job, relevant qualifications and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Candidates should confirm electrical licensing requirements, medical checks, insurance, accommodation and relocation costs before accepting an offer. Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories each offer different commuting and lifestyle options.
