Destination Guide

Mauritius offers opportunities in tourism, hospitality, engineering, construction, finance, technology, healthcare and education. Resort jobs are concentrated around the east, north and west coasts, while Port Louis is the main business centre. The culture blends Indian, Creole, African, Chinese and European influences, with English and French widely used and Mauritian Creole common in daily life. The lifestyle is relaxed and outdoor-oriented, with beaches, hiking, water sports, markets and a warm climate, although imported goods and housing in popular areas can be expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work or occupation permit before starting employment; requirements vary by nationality, salary and role, and the employer usually handles much of the application. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical cover, tax, flights and dependent arrangements in the employment contract before relocating.
