Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city and island territory offering strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, catering, finance, retail, technology and tourism. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, reflected in its food, festivals, arts and fast-paced business environment. Lifestyle options range from dense urban neighborhoods and excellent public transport to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Rent is expensive, especially near Central, but efficient rail and ferry networks make commuting practical. Most overseas professionals need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applicants generally need a confirmed job, relevant qualifications and experience, and proof that the role cannot easily be filled locally. Dependants may usually accompany approved visa holders. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, banking, insurance and a Hong Kong identity card. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in hospitality and business.
