Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a busy international city with excellent opportunities in hotels, restaurants, finance, retail, aviation, technology and professional services. Its culture combines Chinese traditions, Cantonese food and festivals with a highly international outlook. Life is fast-paced, generally safe and convenient, with outstanding public transport, varied dining, hiking trails and easy access to beaches and outlying islands. Rent can be expensive, particularly on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, so many workers share accommodation or live in the New Territories. Overseas employees usually need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, commonly under the General Employment Policy; eligibility depends on qualifications, experience, salary and a confirmed job offer. Dependants may qualify for dependant visas. Applicants should confirm visa, work-permit and housing arrangements before relocating.
