Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, multicultural island city with opportunities in hotels, tourism, restaurants, aviation, retail, technology and finance. English is widely used, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. Life is convenient and safe, with excellent public transport, diverse food, modern shopping areas and easy access to parks and beaches. Accommodation can be expensive, especially near central districts, so newcomers often share apartments or live farther from the city centre. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and the role, with the Employment Pass and S Pass being common categories. The employer normally handles the application. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, insurance and deposits, and confirm working hours, benefits and accommodation support before relocating.
