Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, retail, finance, technology, healthcare and education. The culture is multicultural, combining Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western influences, with English widely used at work. Life is safe, efficient and convenient, although accommodation and daily expenses can be high. Public transport is excellent, and beaches, parks, shopping areas and diverse food are easy to reach. Foreigners normally need an employer-sponsored work pass; hospitality professionals may qualify for an S Pass or Employment Pass depending on salary, qualifications and prevailing government criteria. Employers generally submit the application before relocation. Candidates should verify current requirements with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. New arrivals should budget for rental deposits, transport, insurance and deposits for utilities. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid throughout the year, so comfortable clothing and adaptability are useful.
