Destination Guide

Maldives resort islands offer opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage, housekeeping, marine activities, spa, engineering, finance, human resources, sales, and training. Life is usually based on a self-contained resort island rather than in a conventional town. The environment is tropical, peaceful, and multicultural, with beaches, lagoons, diving, and watersports forming a major part of daily life. Local inhabited islands provide a more traditional experience, including Muslim customs, modest dress expectations, and limited alcohol availability outside licensed resorts. Foreign employees normally require employer sponsorship and a valid Maldives Employment Approval and work visa; the employer generally handles the application, medical checks, and related documentation. Contracts often include accommodation and meals, but employees should confirm flights, insurance, leave, internet access, and gratuity terms before relocating. Travel between islands can involve speedboats or seaplanes, so planning personal trips requires time and additional expense.
