Destination Guide

Malaysia is not a single island but a diverse country split between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia on Borneo, with attractive island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak. Technology job opportunities are strongest in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, including telecommunications, cloud computing, data centres, cybersecurity and engineering. Malaysia offers a multicultural environment shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in business. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore, although Kuala Lumpur and major technology hubs are more expensive. Employees should confirm whether the employer sponsors an Employment Pass; the company normally handles the application, and work must not begin before approval. Relocating candidates should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking, tax registration and transport. Malaysia provides modern cities, varied food, tropical weather and easy access to beaches and islands, but newcomers should prepare for humidity, monsoon seasons and urban traffic.
