Destination Guide

The Philippines offers strong opportunities for technology professionals, particularly in banking, outsourcing, software development, cybersecurity, and infrastructure support. Major employment centers include Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao. Filipino culture is generally welcoming, family-oriented, English-friendly, and influenced by local, Spanish, and American traditions. Lifestyle costs vary: Manila provides the most jobs but has heavier traffic and higher housing costs, while Cebu and Davao offer a more relaxed pace. The country has excellent beaches, warm weather, varied regional food, and active urban communities, though rainy seasons and occasional typhoons should be considered. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate visa, commonly a 9(g) employment visa; requirements can change, so confirmation with Philippine authorities is advisable. Relocating candidates should arrange housing, health insurance, tax registration, and local banking before starting work.
