English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly, safety-conscious, and generally fast-paced, with excellent public transport, reliable services, diverse food, and easy access to parks and regional travel. Housing and childcare can be expensive, although public transport is affordable and efficient. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, experience, and government assessment. Employers typically guide successful applicants through the application process. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking, and tax registration, and check current immigration rules before relocating.
