The Duty Pharmacy Manager is responsible for safely and effectively running the pharmacy within a Tesco store, leading the team, supporting customers and maintaining high professional standards. Requirements typically include registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), a recognised pharmacy qualification, strong knowledge of UK pharmacy legislation and experience supervising or managing a pharmacy team. The successful candidate is expected to provide excellent patient care, deliver NHS and private pharmacy services, manage stock and performance, and work collaboratively with store colleagues. Flexibility, commercial awareness, sound judgement and a commitment to Tesco’s customer-focused values are important. This is a part-time position based in Southend.
Tesco is one of the United Kingdom’s largest retailers, serving millions of customers through supermarkets, convenience stores and online services. Founded in 1919, the company sells groceries, household goods, clothing and financial services, while many stores also provide pharmacy and other customer services. Tesco employs a large, diverse workforce across the UK and operates with a strong focus on affordability, convenience and customer service. Its pharmacy teams support communities by providing dispensing, advice, health checks, vaccinations and other healthcare services. Employees typically work in fast-paced stores where teamwork, responsible retailing and operational efficiency are central to daily performance. Tesco also promotes colleague development, inclusion and flexible working arrangements where business needs allow.
The United Kingdom offers opportunities in retail, healthcare, technology, logistics, finance, hospitality and education. Its culture combines historic traditions with diverse communities, regional identities and a generally direct but polite communication style. Lifestyle options range from busy cities and cultural attractions to quieter coastal and rural areas. Southend-on-Sea provides seaside living, transport links to London and a lower cost base than many parts of the capital, although housing costs can still be significant. Visa requirements depend on nationality and occupation. Overseas pharmacists generally need GPhC registration, appropriate qualifications and, where applicable, a Skilled Worker visa sponsored by an eligible employer. Check current Home Office and GPhC rules before relocating. Plan for accommodation, National Insurance, banking, healthcare registration and transport. The UK climate is temperate and changeable, with relatively mild winters and cool, wet conditions possible throughout the year.
