Destination Guide

The United Kingdom is an island country with strong employment opportunities in technology, retail, finance, healthcare, engineering and professional services. London has one of Europe’s largest technology job markets, although living costs, particularly rent, are high. UK culture is diverse and generally values punctuality, personal space, polite communication and work-life balance. Outside London, cities such as Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh and Leeds may offer lower living costs and growing tech communities. Most overseas workers need a visa, commonly the Skilled Worker visa, and eligibility depends on an approved sponsor, an eligible occupation and salary requirements. Candidates should confirm whether the employer sponsors the specific vacancy. Relocation planning should cover accommodation, immigration fees, healthcare arrangements, taxation, transport and proof of funds. The UK has excellent public transport, varied countryside and a broad international food and cultural scene.
