Destination Guide

Singapore offers strong opportunities in education, research, finance, technology, healthcare, logistics and multinational business. English is widely used at work, and the culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, with a strong emphasis on efficiency, respect and public safety. Life is convenient: public transport is excellent, healthcare is high quality, and food ranges from hawker centres to international restaurants. Housing is the main expense, particularly in central districts, although public-housing rooms and suburban apartments can be more affordable. Foreign professionals generally need an employment pass or another valid work permit, usually arranged by the employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and prevailing regulations. New arrivals should budget for rent, deposits, insurance and daily transport, and research neighbourhoods near MRT stations before relocating. Singapore’s compact size makes beaches, parks and cultural districts easy to reach.
