Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with opportunities in universities, finance, technology, healthcare, government, logistics and multinational companies. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally welcoming, with excellent public transport, safe neighbourhoods and a renowned food scene. Housing, childcare and private healthcare can be expensive, although public services are efficient. Employment Passes are commonly used by foreign professionals, while S Passes may apply to eligible mid-skilled roles; the employer usually submits the application. Research appointments may have fixed-term contracts, so candidates should confirm visa eligibility, benefits and renewal conditions. Relocating workers should budget for rent, deposits, insurance and daily transport, and arrange qualifications, references and a valid passport before arrival.
