Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, well-connected island with strong opportunities in education, technology, finance, healthcare, research, logistics and professional services. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural and generally safe, efficient and respectful, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping and lively neighbourhoods. The lifestyle is convenient but relatively expensive, particularly for housing. Rent is usually lower outside the central area, and many residents commute by MRT or bus. Foreign professionals typically need an Employment Pass, while employers handle most of the application process; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and experience. Moving costs, medical insurance, deposits and school fees should be planned carefully. NUS is located near residential areas such as Clementi, Queenstown and Buona Vista, which offer practical commuting options. Singapore's tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
