Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, safe and highly connected island with opportunities in research, higher education, technology, healthcare, finance, engineering and life sciences. English is widely used at work, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also official languages. The culture combines Southeast Asian traditions with international influences; workplaces are generally professional, multicultural and fast-paced. Public transport is excellent, healthcare is high quality, and food options range from hawker centres to international restaurants. Housing and daily expenses can be high, especially near central districts, so budgeting is important. International hires usually need employer-sponsored authorization, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, depending on qualifications and salary; eligibility rules can change. Relocating is straightforward with proper documentation, but applicants should arrange housing, insurance, banking and tax registration early. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
