Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island with strong opportunities in technology, artificial intelligence, finance, healthcare, education, logistics, and research. English is widely used in workplaces, while the culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian, and international influences. The lifestyle is safe, efficient, and urban, with excellent public transport, diverse food, modern shopping areas, parks, and easy access to regional travel. Housing can be expensive, especially near central districts and major campuses, so many newcomers compare rooms, shared apartments, and university accommodation. International employees usually need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, and current government rules. Research staff should confirm the appropriate pass with NUS before arrival. A valid passport, employment contract, medical documentation where required, and proof of qualifications may be needed for relocation. Singapore's hot, humid climate and frequent rain make lightweight clothing and adaptable routines useful.
