Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state with strong opportunities in education, technology, finance, healthcare, research, communications, and professional services. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, generally orderly, and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on professionalism, punctuality, and good public manners. Lifestyle options range from excellent food and shopping to museums, parks, beaches, and an active expatriate community. Public transport is efficient and housing is the main expense; many newcomers rent rooms or apartments near MRT stations. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to salary and eligibility requirements. Relocating is relatively straightforward, but applicants should budget for deposits, healthcare, insurance, and moving costs. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so lightweight clothing and adaptable routines are useful.
