The Research Fellow will conduct advanced research in large language models within the School of Computing, contributing to projects involving machine learning, natural language processing, model development, evaluation, and responsible AI. Candidates are generally expected to hold a PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or a related discipline, with strong programming skills in Python and experience with deep-learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Familiarity with large language models, NLP research, academic publishing, and experimental design is highly desirable. The successful candidate should work independently, collaborate effectively with faculty and research teams, publish high-quality research, present findings, and support grant or project objectives.
The National University of Singapore (NUS) is Singapore’s flagship comprehensive university and one of Asia’s leading institutions for education and research. Established in 1905, it offers programmes across business, computing, engineering, medicine, science, the humanities, and social sciences. NUS has a strong international profile, extensive industry partnerships, and a major focus on innovation, technology, and interdisciplinary research. Its School of Computing is recognised for work in artificial intelligence, data science, information systems, cybersecurity, and computer science. Researchers benefit from modern facilities, international collaborations, a diverse academic community, and access to Singapore’s wider technology ecosystem. NUS is located primarily on the Kent Ridge campus and provides opportunities for research fellows to contribute to internationally visible projects while developing academic, technical, and professional networks.
Singapore is a compact, safe, and highly connected island with strong opportunities in technology, artificial intelligence, finance, healthcare, education, and research. English is widely used, and the culture blends Chinese, Malay, Indian, and international influences. Life is convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable healthcare, diverse food, and abundant shopping and entertainment. Housing can be expensive, especially near central areas, so many newcomers consider university accommodation, shared apartments, or districts along MRT lines. Research professionals commonly relocate through an Employment Pass sponsored by their institution; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, and current immigration rules. Dependants may qualify for related passes. Before moving, arrange health insurance, accommodation, banking, and tax registration. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. NUS provides international staff assistance and relocation guidance, making the transition relatively straightforward.
