The Research Fellow will conduct research in coastal engineering, likely involving coastal processes, hydrodynamic modelling, climate resilience, numerical simulations, laboratory or field investigations, and analysis of engineering data. Candidates typically need a PhD in civil engineering, coastal engineering, ocean engineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline, together with strong research, programming, technical writing, and communication skills. Experience with modelling software, experimental methods, data analysis, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals is advantageous. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and collaboratively, contribute to research projects and publications, present findings, support grant activities, and meet agreed project milestones.
The National University of Singapore (NUS) is Singapore’s flagship comprehensive university and one of Asia’s leading research-intensive institutions. It offers undergraduate and graduate education across disciplines including engineering, science, medicine, business, computing, law, and the humanities. NUS is known for international collaboration, strong industry partnerships, and research addressing global challenges such as sustainability, climate change, urban development, health, and digital technology. Its engineering community conducts advanced work in areas including coastal protection, maritime systems, infrastructure, water resources, and environmental resilience. Employees benefit from a multicultural academic environment, access to modern research facilities, and opportunities to collaborate with researchers and organisations worldwide. The university is located mainly in the Kent Ridge area and has a large international staff and student population.
Singapore is a compact, well-connected island with opportunities in research, engineering, technology, finance, healthcare, education, and maritime industries. Its culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian, and international influences, reflected in its festivals, languages, food, and neighbourhoods. The lifestyle is convenient and safe, with excellent public transport, tropical weather, modern amenities, parks, and extensive hawker dining. International employees usually need an Employment Pass or another work pass sponsored by their employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, and prevailing government requirements. Relocation costs can be significant, especially rent, deposits, and schooling, although public transport is affordable. Most newcomers choose housing near MRT lines. English is widely used in workplaces, while learning basic local expressions and respecting multicultural customs helps with integration.
