Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, well-connected island with opportunities in education, technology, finance, healthcare, logistics, tourism and professional services. English is widely used at work, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, generally orderly and respectful, with excellent public transport, reliable healthcare and a vibrant food scene. Housing ranges from shared rooms and public HDB flats to private apartments, although rent can be high, especially near central areas. Employment Pass or S Pass eligibility depends on the role, salary, qualifications and employer sponsorship; the employer normally submits the application to the Ministry of Manpower. New arrivals should budget for rent, a deposit, transport and healthcare, and confirm employment conditions before relocating. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
